Story

Obituary

Ross passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Villa Care Centre, Midland. Ross Hastings of Wyevale, dear husband of the late Pat Hastings. Cherished mother of Cindy (Shayne Large) and Kirk (Penny Brake) all of Tiny. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Alexis and Jonathan and step grandchildren Kaitlyn and Cole. Predeceased by parents Marjorie and Del Hastings. Ross will be greatly missed by his extended family, many friends and those from the community he loved so much.

Ross was known to many through his construction business, volunteer work and many years on Tiny Council.  He served as Councillor, Deputy Reeve, Reeve and had the distinction of being the first Mayor in Tiny. He was also elected by his peers as Warden of Simcoe County.

Ross spent a lot of time with family and friends at the family cottage. The annual snowmobile weekends there were infamous.  He and Pat vacationed at their home in Florida and enjoyed many memorable trips over the years.  Visits with the grandchildren were always a great source of joy.  Ross always found time to attend regular “meetings” at the Wyevale Jug City (especially during ice cream season).

Cremation has taken place.  As per his wishes, there will be a private interment for both Ross and his sweetheart, Pat.

Ross requested that instead of a funeral, we celebrate his life and share memories with family and friends.   His family will host an informal Celebration of Life Open House on July 14 between 3 to 6 pm at Shayne and Cindy’s home – 1249 Marshall Road in Tiny. As there is no formal service, everyone is welcome to drop in when they can.  More details will be available shortly on the memorial website.

The Township of Tiny was very important to Ross.  If you would like to make a donation in his honour, consider supporting one of the many organizations that serve our community.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Villa Care Centre who have lovingly cared for Ross during the last two years and provided incredible support to both him and the family during end of life.
